Aspen Art Week
Aspen Art Week 2024 brought together the best of architecture, art, and hospitality, featuring the inaugural edition of the Aspen Art Fair, hosted at the iconic Hotel Jerome. Co-founders Becca Hoffman and Bob Chase crafted this new art fair as a platform for fresh, unexpected experiences and spark creative conversations.
CCY Architects proudly participated in the new initiative’s programming, taking the stage at a panel discussion that explored the synergy between design, hospitality, and community. Held on the rooftop of CCY’s latest hospitality project, MOLLIE Aspen, the conversation highlighted the pivotal role that architecture plays in fostering connections and elevating the local environment.
Recently named “Best in Show” at the Hospitality Design Awards and praised by the Michelin guide, Travel & Leisure, and Esquire Magazine, MOLLIE Aspen is a beacon of contemporary hospitality in the Rockies. But beyond the accolades, what sets MOLLIE apart is its deep connection to the community and its thoughtful integration of local history and craftsmanship.
The panel discussion, moderated by William Logan, Editor of Modern In Denver magazine, invited thought leaders to explore how architecture can shape community spaces. John Cottle, FAIA, Partner at CCY Architects; Jou-Yie Chou, Partner at Post Company; and MOLLIE owner, Michael Brown, shared their insights on how MOLLIE was designed to reflect both the rich history and the evolving identity of Aspen. Through the use of art, sustainability, and craftsmanship, MOLLIE fosters a sense of belonging for guests and locals alike.
Aspen Art Week also marked a significant milestone in the town's cultural history: the 10th anniversary of the Aspen Art Museum’s new building, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Shigeru Ban. The museum honored Ban at this year’s ArtCrush, celebrating a decade of his visionary architecture shaping Aspen’s cultural landscape.
For CCY Architects, this milestone is especially meaningful. Serving as the Architect of Record for the Aspen Art Museum project, CCY worked alongside Shigeru Ban’s team in New York, the museum’s Board of Directors, KL&A Engineering, Turner Construction, and many other talented consultants. CCY's contributions included everything from design assistance to ensuring the seamless execution of construction and navigating the complex city planning processes. This work has helped elevate the museum into a world-class cultural hub in downtown Aspen.
As Aspen continues to evolve as a global destination for art and design, CCY Architects remains at the forefront of shaping the town’s built environment. Aspen Art Week 2024 was a powerful reminder of how architecture and design contribute to the vibrant, creative spirit that defines Aspen, and how thoughtful design can create spaces that inspire, connect, and enrich the community.
