Ulery's Lake

Set within Moonlight Basin in Big Sky, Montana, Ulery’s Lake is a private mountain community shaped by its namesake alpine lake, views to Lone Mountain, and the surrounding lodgepole pine forest. Our client envisioned a year-round retreat where residential life, hospitality, and outdoor recreation could come together without overwhelming the landscape.

The design strategy began with an ambitious goal: create a walkable, lake-oriented neighborhood while preserving the experience of the lake itself. Buildings were carefully sited within the tree canopy, held low to the ground, and arranged so the architecture recedes from view at the water’s edge.

The LakeLodge serves as the social heart of Ulery’s Lake and an all-season base camp for the community. Residences, dining, a bar, an outfitter, fitness and activity spaces, owner lockers, a pool, terraces, and informal gathering areas support the rhythms of ski, bike, hike, and lake life. Inside, CCY’s interiors and furnishings approach balances durability with warmth: custom pieces, tactile fabrics, regional art, and residentially scaled lounge and dining areas create spaces that feel refined, comfortable, and ready for daily use.

A high-performance mindset guided the architecture and material choices. The LakeLodge earned LEED certification, supported by regionally sourced materials, low-flow fixtures, solar shading, generous roof overhangs, and exposed structure that brings warmth, honesty, and efficiency to the building. Together, these choices create a durable, resource-conscious architecture that feels grounded in Montana and deeply connected to its alpine setting.
